Who we are

SAFE is an interdisciplinary research group at Manchester Metropolitan University pioneering sustainable fashion and business practices through rigorous research, meaningful collaboration and industry engagement.

We explore what sustainability looks like when it stops being a reporting exercise and starts influencing how organisations source, produce, market, innovate and account for their impact.

Our vision is to become a leading and internationally recognised research group advancing sustainable business practices through interdisciplinary collaboration, cutting-edge research and impactful partnerships.

We want our research to do more than describe sustainability challenges. We want it to shape decisions, influence policy, improve organisational practice and deliver meaningful benefits for society.

Why our research matters

Sustainability is no longer simply a question of reporting or regulatory compliance. It is a strategic challenge affecting business models, supply chains, technology, marketing, consumption and organisational accountability.

Responding to this challenge requires more than one discipline or perspective. The most meaningful solutions emerge where business, culture, technology, society and policy meet.

SAFE creates a collaborative space where these connections can generate new knowledge, challenge established practices and develop sustainable solutions that work in the real world.
